Make your own Chia Seed Facial Scrub - Organising Chaos Blog

Over a year ago, I started making my own beauty products and they have been so amazing, my skin has been feeling so amazing, that I won’t look back.

Last year I made a couple of scrubs: a vanilla lip scrub and an oatmeal facial scrub. I have been using both a lot. The lip scrub was mostly used in autumn and winter when the combination of the heating being on and the cold outside leaves my lips feeling like paper sand. It is handy having the lip scrub handy and ready to use. A quick scrub, some Vaseline and as good as new.Home-made Oatmeal Facial Scrub - OrganisingChaosBlog

The oatmeal facial scrub has also been working its magic. It leaves your skin so ridiculously soft and smooth but, let’s face it, it was messy. The shower, the sink… they looked like half of my face had just fallen off, so I have been looking for a scrub as effective but a bit less messy, and I believe I have found it!

For this scrub I decided to use to coconut oil rather than olive oil (don’t tell my family in Spain! They might take away my passport!). We all know how amazing coconut oil so I took a some from Mr B’s stash to make the face scrub.

You will need:
1/4 cup coconut oil
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon chia seeds

  • Mix the ingredients together and store in a clean jar.
  • To use, dampen face and apply scrub in a circular motion to damp face.
  • Allow the mixture to set for two minutes before using a wet washcloth to remove.
  • Splash cold water on your face when you’ve finished.
  • Store in fridge for 3-5 days

I love using it just after the shower. My face feels amazing and it makes me feel like a million dollars! Make your own Chia Seed Facial Scrub - Organising Chaos Blog

Our kitchen is getting a face-lift soon. I am so excited!

When we moved to our house, our kitchen was pine. Pretty much everything was pine in the house, so no surprise there, but the pine in the kitchen made the space look very dark and oppressive so Mr B and I painted it white which helped us survive in it for the last 4 years.

The problem with the kitchen was not only the color, but the space did not work. At all. You have heart about the concept of the “kitchen triangle”? Well, the people who designed my kitchen had never heard of it. Or the kitchen square. I think for the it was more like a game of tetris – this fits here, it goes there then. Seriously, really bad.

But not worry, the end is in sight and we are going to have a kitchen that works, a simple, bright and practical kitchen. And a big fridge. I can’t tell you how excited I am about hsving a big fridge. We currently have an under counter fridge that freezes everything at the back, has no light and I hate… (breaths heavily into a paper bag…).

Everything has been planned, from tiles to units. The only thing left to choose is the lighting… So many options….

On one hand, I love the INDUSTRIAL VIBE…

Although there is something pretty warm about VINTAGE LIGHTING.

But sometimes I think I should go totally with MODERN LIGHTING, because I am a modern kind of girl, you know…

Or I could also go with all NATURAL MATERIALS for  warmth.

So many options, so many beautiful lights…

I will let you know what lighting we choose when it is all done. I am excited. I am so excited to the idea of having a functioning kitchen. And a new one at that. Yay and double yay!!!

As you know, I have been making my own beauty products for a while now and I have to say that I would never go back to the store-bought ones. Not only the home-made products are cheaper to make but they are also much better for you and the environment.

As you can imagine, packing to come to Spain for 7 weeks with 2 kids is no easy task. Although we already have god few things here in our summer-house, the suitcases were still full and there is a lot to bring between clothes, toys, books… you know the drill. But it is a relief to know that I don’t have to bring my favorite beauty products as I can make them over there with some basic ingredients.

So this week I will be making my favorite scrubs to get my skin ready for the sun, and my favorite facial masks for my skin to feel amazing.

What is your favorite home-made beauty product for the summer?

I love using facial scrubs. There is nothing like stepping out of the shower with a bright red face to feel super clean.

Although I love the feeling of the facial scrub deep cleaning my face, I find that if I use it twice a week my skin tends to get drier and my ph balance gets disrupted. I know, I know, first world problems (shakes head in shame).
OCB - Home-made Oatmeal Facial Scrub
As you all know, I am on a mission to make my own beauty products (Body Scrub, Lip Balm, Lip Scrub, Face Mask) and so far I have been really amazed with the results and how little I have had to invest on them. Well. prepare to be amazed again. This is so simple and yet so wonderful.

  • Two parts oatmeal (ground up finely in a blender or food processor)
  • One part honey
  • One part olive oil oil . You can also use sweet almond oil or coconut oil, whichever you prefer or have handy

Mix all the ingredients together until you have a thick sticky mixture. It is is too sticky or lumpy you can always add more oil or few drops of water.

Clean your face and smooth the mixture onto your clean face and rub into skin for a couple of minutes and then rinse off. Your face will feel not only deep cleaned but also moisturized  – the perfect balance!
OCB - Home-made Oatmeal Facial Scrub
It is without a doubt the best facial scrub I have ever used. Much much better than any of the store-bought product and 100% natural.

What about you? Are you loving coconut oil yet?
Chaotic Itzi

For a while now I have been trying to make my own natural beauty products : a body scrub, a lip balm, a lip scrub, a face mask… and I am delighted with the results. I wouldn’t go back to store bought products. Not only because it saves a considerable amount of money (which it does) but you know that everything that you put on is natural and you have absolute control on the quality of the products.

Today I wanted to share with you another face mask recipe with coconut oil that would leave you feeling amazing.
Coconut oil is naturally rich in antioxidants and healthy acids, it will soften and lubricate healthy skin cells, break down dead cells, heal acne, and hydrate skin. Coconut oil is the super-hero of oils, if you ask me.
Honey and lemon are great too.
Honey is a natural moisturizer, contains antibacterial, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, fights acne and pimples., fades acne scars and blemishes and you can eat it!!!
Lemon is a natural astringent, which tightens and shrinks large pores and it has antibacterial properties that kills acne causing bacteria.
Combine the above ingredients thoroughly in a small mixing bowl.
Apply a thick coat of the mixture onto your clean face.
Allow the mixture to sink in for 10 minutes. Rinse off with cool water.
Pat dry with a soft towel and feel like a beautiful super-hero

Have a beautiful weekend.

Lips tend to suffer a lot during winter time. The cold winds, rain and heating dry them up and make them crack, peel and look awful.

Even though I know I should leave them alone, I find myself picking at the dead skin (such an attractive image, I know) and they end up bleeding and very sore.
Homemade Vanilla Lip Scrub - OCB
I am trying to not use commercial beauty products when at all possible and make my own with natural ingredients. I always thought that you would need very specialized ingredients and that it would end up been expensive and a long process. As you know, I have been converted. After making my own lavender body scrub and lip balm, I know that you can make your own amazing natural products with things that you already have in your house or that are affordable and easy to buy.

To make the VANILLA LIP SCRUB you will need:
– 1.5 tsp Light golden sugar (or normal caster sugar)
– 1 tsp Vegetable oil (or any other vegetable with no flavor)
– 1/2 tsp Honey
– 3 drops Vanilla extract
Vanilla Lip Scrub - OrganisingChaosBlog
(1) Put the caster sugar in a bowl and (2) mix in the vegetable oil until you have a thick paste. (3) Add the honey and (4) the vanilla extract and keep mixing.
Homemade Vanilla Lip Scrub
Apply to your lips and scrub gently. The caster sugar will gently scrub your lips while the oil and honey will moisturize them.
Wipe it off with a tissue and apply your home-made lip balm.
If your lips are very dry, apply the scrub morning and evening and make sure that you keep your lips moist with your lip balm during the day.

No more bleeding and sore lips for me, only delicious vanilla lips.

Have a great day,
Chaotic Itzi
