Happy February lovely people! Wow! January went fast, didn’t it?

January can be a tough month to get through. We tend to have little cash in our pockets, we are exhausted from the Christmas parties and get togethers, the weather is getting colder… Even the children feel it! Chaotic Monkey told me yesterday that he was very tired because we had too many parties in Spain over Christmas. Life is tough when you are 6, for sure!

I have to say that this month was ok for me. It took me a good while to get back into the swing of things. Back into the routine, the organised meals, the timetables… everything. It was the same after the summer holidays. I think I am just so good at being on holidays that my whole self fights going back to reality. So, if you ever hear of a job that requires being on holidays and relaxed, please make sure to let me know… please….

Last month on the blog, I shared my new approach to the tidying conflict in my house. I have to say it is working a treat. The idea of the toys being confiscated or in “time out”, as they call it, for few days is a great incentive to get things going before going to bed without an argument. If I had only known this before… Have you tried it yet?

I also talked about being a blanket person and how to cheer up a plain blanket with simple pompoms. By the way, I can’t stop making pompoms. I find it so soothing and therapeutic. Also, I am trying to stop biting my nails so it helps having my hands busy on the couch 😉

I also shared tips on how to keep the cables tidy around the house, and 3 different uses for paint brushes that should help you make your life easier. Have you tried any of them yet?

I am delighted with my personalized sign crowning my stair gallery. I love that it means something to us and that it is now part of our home. There will be fights as to who gets it on the will, I just know it… 😉

My January plant smells so delicious that I would love to have one in every room. As that is not going to happen, it will have to move with me from room to room until at least Spring has arrived.

And this month as we get closer to my kitchen renovation date (insert happy dance here!) I needed inspiration in the kitchen lighting department, and also some inspiration was needed to decorate the boy’s rooms according to their age and needs. I will be copying some of the ideas for sure.

So goodbye January. It was lovely to have you but glad that you are gone. We are now a month closer to Spring. A month closer to Summer.

I have a gut feeling that February will be kind to us. What do you think?

As I mentioned recently, I moved every bed in my house before Christmas. I just woke up one morning and I had to do it.

The boys had been sharing a room since they were born but for different reasons (that will soon be revealed to you), the boys had to be separated and they now have their very own bedroom.

I have always tried to decorate their bedroom and playroom with different colors. I never liked the blue with soccer balls kind of decorations for the boy’s room. It is not them. It is not us.

As now I get to decorate 2 bedrooms, I have to take into consideration their ages, their tastes and their needs for their individual rooms, always within budget which means recycle, up-cycle, inherit, beg…. the usual!

For BIG MONKEY’S ROOM (age 8) I will need a nice desk to keep up with his drawing

And some shelving will also be neccesary for books and general stuff that they seem to get…

These walls are just gorgeous. Fun but sensible… right?

The bed is priority. It needs to be comfortable and inviting, not only to sleep but also to grab a book and read for a while.

Their little feet need to be warm, but stylish also… of course!

As for CHAOTIC MONKEY’S ROOM (age 6) I will also need some storage and this one looks not only affordable but fun!

I am totally in love with that Fantastic Mr Fox print and that rug here. Just. In. Love.

This kind of wall decoration is so Chaotic Monkey, it is scary.

There is so much I would take from here. From the cushions, to the wall, to the bed… so much…

How cool would it be to have this seat in your room? I mean Chaotic Monkey’s room… yes, that’s what I mean…

Food for thought.
I will be working hard at making those spaces as amazing, relaxing and inspiring as I can.
What about you?
Are you inspired yet?

Have an amazing weekend.

My kids love having pijama’s days. To be honest, I don’t know where they got that from as both Mr B and I are totally presentable in the morning. I mean, fully showered, fully dressed and even some makeup on… it is important to be presentable for breakfast, to start the day prepared… yeah, right… there is nothing better than breakfast in pijamas and messy hair (this last detail doesn’t seem to be optional… my hair is just crazy in the mornings).

The weather has just turned and the cold seems to be here to stay. We are officially entering into pijama’s season. That time of the year where the kind of pijamas you are wearing will determine the day you will have. Ok, I might have taken it too far but you know what I mean…

For a lazy day watching TV by the fire, animal onesies are a must.

Now, these pijamas might prove uncomfortable in bed, with their tails and ears, so a sexier onesie (because there is totally such a thing, right?).

But in fairness, bed is not just for lazing around., I also like to read in it – snuggled under the blanket, kindle in hand and loads and loads of coffee.

Just because you are in pijamas it doesn’t mean that you can not be stylish

or sexy

Whatever style you’d prefer, enjoy your lazy day, put your feet up, cuddle up and embrace the chaos.

Have a great weekend.

This Autumn is being amazing: bright and dry… the perfect Autumn as far as I am concern. I love the leaves changing colors, avenues covered in them, amazing sunsets and no rain and nice temperatures. I like my Autumn and Winter mild and my Spring and Summer hot. That’s me.

The irony is that although I don’t like the cold, I am a sucker for blankets, woolly hats, cosy clothes and homely casseroles. I am a complex individual… (it sounds better than confused, right?)

Look at this little guy. Isn’t he the cutest? The perfect image for Autumn.

I don’t know if it’s just me but as winter closes in, cold gets sharper and the days are getting shorter, I find it harder and harder to get out of bed in the morning. Don’t tell me I am on my own here… Who likes to get out of bed in a cold morning?

Although staying in bed is not an option during weekdays, we always try to linger in  bed that little bit longer at weekends. We have been know for having family breakfasts in bed and snuggling up in wet cold afternoons while watching The Princes Bride.

The thing is that these family events require big and amazing beds. And I am not only talking about big beds, they also need to be inviting, comfortable and cosy.

This bed is just big enough for all of us and I love all the pillows and the layers… so inviting!

Big beds in small spaces have to be inviting and it looks like we could camp in this one for a good while!

And of course, a four poster bed is the ultimate luxury when it comes to beds. I would love to just close those curtains and sleep off until Spring!

Autumn is being amazing this year – sunny, dry, relatively warm (we are in Ireland, warm is a relative term even in the summer!). The kids have been able to play outside every day after school until bed time – climbing trees, cycling, running around… good old fresh air. You can’t beat that.

Unfortunately, slowly but shortly darkness is crawling in. Very soon we will be getting up in darkness and we will be having dinner in darkness. Did I mention I don’t like darkness? I just don’t. I like sun and brightness. But winter is coming and there is no way to stop it so I better deal with it.

Lighting is especially important in winter. Spaces need to feel warm and cosy but bright at the same time and fairy lights are a lovely and subtle way to achieve that at a very low cost and with high impact. Fairy lights are super popular these days. You can find them in different colors, shapes and lengths – the options are endless, and they are all so pretty!

Fairy lights in the sitting room are a great way to add extra light to the room in the afternoon as the dark creeps in.
