HOME-MADE CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS

I love looking around the web for handmade Christmas decorations.

Handmade decorations always make a house truly feel like a home and they add so much character to any space, plus the satisfaction of knowing that you have made something yourself.

As you know, I love creating messes and making things. I like getting the kids involved. They get so excited! Chaotic Monkey starts with loads of energy and gets distracted about 5 minutes into it and runs off covered in material and glue. Big Monkey usually lasts 10 more minutes before he has the urge to draw something, so I tend to finish it on my own. I don’t mind. I find it therapeutic, except the cleaning. I don’t like the cleaning part…

MollyMooCrafts has an abundance of amazing craft projects to make with the kids but I find this tree garland particularly adorable, don’t you think?

I find the colors in these decorations by Picklebums very uplifting and they would bring an extra personal touch to any tree.

MY FAVORITE SUMMER HOME-MADE BEAUTY PRODUCTS

MY FAVORITE SUMMER HOME-MADE BEAUTY PRODUCTS
As you know, I have been making my own beauty products for a while now and I have to say that I would never go back to the store-bought ones. Not only the home-made products are cheaper to make but they are also much better for you and the environment.

As you can imagine, packing to come to Spain for 7 weeks with 2 kids is no easy task. Although we already have god few things here in our summer-house, the suitcases were still full and there is a lot to bring between clothes, toys, books… you know the drill. But it is a relief to know that I don’t have to bring my favorite beauty products as I can make them over there with some basic ingredients.

So this week I will be making my favorite scrubs to get my skin ready for the sun, and my favorite facial masks for my skin to feel amazing.

HOME-MADE OATMEAL FACIAL SCRUB

I love using facial scrubs. There is nothing like stepping out of the shower with a bright red face to feel super clean.

Although I love the feeling of the facial scrub deep cleaning my face, I find that if I use it twice a week my skin tends to get drier and my ph balance gets disrupted. I know, I know, first world problems (shakes head in shame).
OCB - Home-made Oatmeal Facial Scrub
As you all know, I am on a mission to make my own beauty products (Body Scrub, Lip Balm, Lip Scrub, Face Mask) and so far I have been really amazed with the results and how little I have had to invest on them. Well. prepare to be amazed again. This is so simple and yet so wonderful.

HOME-MADE OATMEAL FACIAL SCRUB:

  • Two parts oatmeal (ground up finely in a blender or food processor)
  • One part honey
  • One part olive oil oil . You can also use sweet almond oil or coconut oil, whichever you prefer or have handy

Mix all the ingredients together until you have a thick sticky mixture. It is is too sticky or lumpy you can always add more oil or few drops of water.

Clean your face and smooth the mixture onto your clean face and rub into skin for a couple of minutes and then rinse off. Your face will feel not only deep cleaned but also moisturized  – the perfect balance!
OCB - Home-made Oatmeal Facial Scrub
It is without a doubt the best facial scrub I have ever used. Much much better than any of the store-bought product and 100% natural.

HAND-MADE TOYS

We always know that home-made presents are much better. They tend to be more realistic and kids love making them or helping making them. My kids get very proud in having a once off toy, something made exclusively for them. They love it.

Over the Easter break, we had the pleasure to spend some time in Connemara, one of the most beautiful places in Ireland and probably the world. It is quite wild, the sun was shinning  and we were meeting loads of lovely family, it was very special.
Connemara - West of Ireland
Mr B made bows and arrows for all 9 kids. They were a great hit as you can imagine.
The West of Ireland
The bows and arrows were brought home but as we didn’t have a forest or big trees to shoot into. We needed a target.

We bought a square canvas and starter making circles of different sizes and colouring them. The boys picked the colours, the size of the circles and they insisted on making most of the circles and the colouring. It is very much their own project.

They have got so much use out of it and they are so proud. They keep bringing their friends over for bow and arrow demonstrations.

They couldn’t have been happier with these toys. They love them and they feel very special and unique! No amount of money can ever buy that.

What about you? Have you got home-made toys?

HOME-MADE VANILLA LIP SCRUB

Lips tend to suffer a lot during winter time. The cold winds, rain and heating dry them up and make them crack, peel and look awful.

Even though I know I should leave them alone, I find myself picking at the dead skin (such an attractive image, I know) and they end up bleeding and very sore.
Homemade Vanilla Lip Scrub - OCB
I am trying to not use commercial beauty products when at all possible and make my own with natural ingredients. I always thought that you would need very specialized ingredients and that it would end up been expensive and a long process. As you know, I have been converted. After making my own lavender body scrub and lip balm, I know that you can make your own amazing natural products with things that you already have in your house or that are affordable and easy to buy.

To make the VANILLA LIP SCRUB you will need:
– 1.5 tsp Light golden sugar (or normal caster sugar)
– 1 tsp Vegetable oil (or any other vegetable with no flavor)
– 1/2 tsp Honey
– 3 drops Vanilla extract
Vanilla Lip Scrub - OrganisingChaosBlog
(1) Put the caster sugar in a bowl and (2) mix in the vegetable oil until you have a thick paste. (3) Add the honey and (4) the vanilla extract and keep mixing.
Homemade Vanilla Lip Scrub
Apply to your lips and scrub gently. The caster sugar will gently scrub your lips while the oil and honey will moisturize them.
Wipe it off with a tissue and apply your home-made lip balm.
If your lips are very dry, apply the scrub morning and evening and make sure that you keep your lips moist with your lip balm during the day.

No more bleeding and sore lips for me, only delicious vanilla lips.

Have a great day,
Chaotic Itzi

DIY SILHOUETTE CUSHIONS

I might have mentioned (once or twice before) that I like up-cycling and updating things that I have around the house. DIY silhouette cushions - OrganisingChaosBlog
A while ago I bought 4 super soft amazing cushions that go perfectly well with the scheme that I have going on in my sitting room. Ok, calling it a scheme might be a step to far (or few miles) but you know what I mean.

After I added some felt pom-poms, which by the way are highly addictive, I wanted to add something else. After much thought, I decided to add some pink felt animal silhouettes to keep with the soft felt thing (notice I didn’t say scheme??) going on.

Adding feltpompoms to cushions - OrganisingChaosBlog
Once I decided on the silhouette I got them printed and cut them out and then I used some bias binding to adhere them to the cushion.

They looked pretty adorable as they were but I wanted to add something else – more was more in this project for sure!. I added these covered buttons as noses to the silhouettes and I they look even cuter now. Poppy silhouette on a cushion - OrganisingChaosBlog
I love the combination of textures and colors.
I am very in love with these cushions and I think we are going to be fighting with them. I might make more silhouette cushions. More animals? Maybe a parrot? Stay tuned!

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN STORM LAMP

Storm lamps have become very popular. They are very pretty and very practical in those summer evenings. I know that we are not quite in summer, not even spring (I am very clever, just in case you hadn’t noticed) but as I mentioned before, I am in a mission to bring on Spring into my house. so I decided to make my own version of a storm lamp.

I had a empty jam jar big enough to fit a candle, I had a candle, and I had some ribbon so I put it all together!
Try to keep up, it is very complicated.

1. Get Jar, candle and ribbon 2.Tie the ribbon around the jar 3. Put the  candle in.

How to make your own Storm Lamp
I might not be able to sit outside yet and enjoy my light with a cocktail, but I sure plan to sit by the fire tonight and have a romantic night with my storm light, my pompoms and plan my spring break.

Happy Friday! Have a great weekend!
