WEEKLY INSPIRATIONS : HAND-MADE CHRISTMAS

It’s funny how different traditions are family to family. Especially when it comes to decorating your house for Christmas.

Most of my friends and neighbors have already their Christmas decorations up. They went up last weekend.

We usually wait until the 2nd or even sometimes the 3rd weekend to put them up and as we celebrate the 6th of January Spanish style, they stay up until at least the 7th of January.

Every year I try to make some decorations. I have this idea of only having hand-made decorations by the time I become a grandma and my children secretly stealing them because they are very sweet and they remind them of me…  I am such a sweet granny…

So future grannies… get making!

ON JAMIE OLIVER, SPANISH PEOPLE AND CHORIZO

I am a huge Jamie Oliver fan. For years now.  I love his food combination, his flavours and his focus on health and family eating.

I have most of his books and all the recipes I have tried have been a success, even the crazy ones. What can I say? I trust the guy. The man does make delicious food.

I don’t know if you have heard about all the hoo-ha that one of his recipes has created in Twitter. If you haven’t heard, let me catch you up.

Jamie Oliver's Paella @ OrganisingChaosBlog

So Jamie has a Paella recipe on his website (a very delicious one, by the way).  Paella is a very popular dish in Spain, originates from Valencia, in the Mediterranean. So far so good. No crazy yet.

But to the shock and horror of some very irrated Spanish people, he dared to use chorizo as an ingredient in this dish. Now, –chorizo is not a traditional ingredient to this dish but the amount of abuse poor Jamie has got is ridiculous. I mean, the man has even got death threats! I kid you not!

Now, as you know, I am Spanish. I am not sure if it’s the Spanish in me or if I am just a foodie, but I am pretty obsessed with food. I am the kind of person who is planning and savoring her next meal while eating the one I just finished cooking. I love cooking and I love eating. Being from the north of Spain, where paella is not our signature dish I am sure that I am not even qualified to have an opinion on the matter, but regardless, here goes:

Chorizo in paella???
Who cares??????????

Anyway, as my kids always say: “Everything is always better with chorizo”

For the record, I have had paella with chorizo in Spain. Many times
At a restaurant. Cooked by a chef.

I just can’t get my head around the fact that so many people got SO angry in Spain that decided to take to twitter to give an English chef a piece of their mind. And to the point of actually threatening someone… that is just beyond words. Where are our priorities?

It makes me think about picking your battles. About setting priorities. About spending your energy on things that are worth while.

Don’t get me wrong, I also do get angry about small things. I would imagine that we all do. But we need to take a step back and try to see the bigger picture.

Poor Jamie, he’s had it tough.
Although someone once said that “There is no such a thing as bad publicity” so…. 😉

Do try the recipe. I’m sure after talking about paella for this long you are hungry and a little  but curious.

LIFE, TIREDNESS, COFFEE AND VITAMINS

LIFE, TIREDNESS, COFFEE AND VITAMINS

Hey guys! Sorry for not being in touch lately. Working, cooking and kids have been taking most of my time and energy. By the time I get to sit down on the couch, both body and mind are no good for anything. I sit in front of the television and watch some brainless TV program and… I think I drool…  (I have convinced myself that I don’t and I really don’t want to ask Mr B if I do drool, but in my heart of hearts I think I do…) (anyway… moving swiftly along…) 😛 Read more
